Why go?

An adventurous walk for little explorer's

The Forest Loop Trail is a peaceful, nature-filled walk tucked within Christchurch Adventure Park. Starting just behind the café, this 45-minute loop winds through native bush and offers a mix of uphill effort and quiet moments beneath the trees. Best suited for confident young walkers or babies in carriers, it’s a lovely option for families wanting a bit of a challenge in a scenic setting - with the added bonus of a café waiting at the end.

Good to know

Before you go.

Dogs only in designated areas

Dogs are not permitted on the trail, but they are welcome elsewhere in the park and on the café’s outdoor deck (on lead).

Partially suitable for prams

The terrain is stony in parts, and although it’s technically possible to push a pram, it would be a tough workout and is only recommended for fit and determined parents.

Finding the toilets

The café also has toilets, a change table, and a trampoline for kids to play on, making it an easy spot to pause after your walk.

Route options

A picnic table is located at the start of the track if you want to rest or snack before setting off.

Route options

There are no rubbish bins or drinking fountains on the trail itself, but both are available at the café where the walk begins and ends.

Walk guide

Follow the route.

Use these route notes alongside signs and conditions on the day.

  1. Forest Loop · about 45 minutes

The first half climbs steadily through native bush; the second half slopes gently back down to the starting area.

  2. Shared crossings

Walking and biking paths intersect at signposted crossover points. Pause and look both ways before continuing on the walking trail.

  3. Surface and effort

The trail is stony and uneven in places. A pram is technically possible but the climb makes it hard work; a carrier is the more practical option for babies.

  4. Useful landmarks

A bench appears a few minutes into the trail and another around halfway. A picnic table is at the start, and laminated native-bird pictures on trees give children something to spot.

  5. Back at the start

The loop finishes by the café. Toilets, a change table, rubbish bins and drinking water are available in the café area rather than on the trail.
