Alternatively, there’s a smaller car park on Mairehau Road , opposite the Wetlands Eatery café.

From Beach Road
The main entrance has toilets, drinking water, picnic tables and the information centre. A bird hide with viewing windows and displays is about five minutes along the track.
From Mairehau Road
The smaller car park also has picnic tables. From here it is about 20 minutes around the loop to the toilets and information centre at the Beach Road end.
Wetland loop · about 1 hour
Follow the pram-accessible mix of gravel paths and boardwalks around the restored wetland. Dogs and bikes are not permitted.
Landmarks around the loop
Look for the eel-viewing spot with seating, an open field, the viewing tower, the Fishy Fun interactive board and signs about native plants. Benches are spaced around the route.
Return
Continue around the loop to your chosen entrance. The route is especially useful for birdwatching, with pukeko and other native species often visible.

Use either the main car park at the end of Beach Road or the smaller Mairehau Road car park opposite the café. Both entrances join the same wetland loop.
